Nagoya, Japan's Industrial City

Nagoya, Japan's fourth largest city, is a vibrant and fascinating industrial hub. Nagoya blends ancient traditions and modernity in a unique way. Nagoya Castle, rebuilt in the 17th century, is a major historic site, while the trendy Sakae district is bustling with fashionable shops and restaurants. Art lovers will appreciate the Nagoya City Art Museum, which features an impressive collection of Japanese and Western works.

Local cuisine is also a highlight of Nagoya. Visitors must try the miso-katsu, a delicious pork cutlet dish served with a miso-based sauce. The city's markets, such as Osu Kannon, are ideal places to discover local culinary specialties and do some shopping.

Famille Sanchez

Why choose Nagoya for your customized trip to Japan?

Nagoya truly deserves its place in your travel plans to Japan, beyond just being a stopover between Tokyo and Osaka. This Japanese city of 2.3 million inhabitants offers an authentic immersion into Japanese culture, away from the usual tourist crowds. Your custom trip to Nagoya will reveal a modern metropolis that has preserved its ancestral traditions.

Strategically located at the heart of the Honshu island, Nagoya is an ideal starting point to explore the Japanese Alps and the Kansai region. This privileged geographical position makes it a choice destination for your tailored stay, especially since the city is perfectly served by the Japan Rail Pass. Our Travel Planners are well aware of these logistical benefits and will integrate them into your personalized itinerary.

The history of Nagoya dates back to the feudal era, when it served as a stronghold for the powerful Tokugawa clan. Although largely rebuilt after World War II, the city has retained its soul and its traditional crafts. Your interests will guide our local experts in creating a personalized trip to Nagoya that suits you, whether you are passionate about history, cuisine, or traditional crafts.

Nagoya's culinary reputation is well established. Birthplace of unique specialties such as red miso, kishimen noodles, and tebasaki (spicy chicken wings), the city will delight gourmets in search of authenticity. This gastronomic richness, often unknown to Western travelers, is one of the major attractions of your custom trip to this region of Japan.

What to discover during your custom stay in Nagoya?

Your personalized trip to Nagoya will reveal a multitude of fascinating attractions, each reflecting the unique identity of this metropolis. Our Travel Planners accompany you in discovering these treasures, adapting each visit to your personal preferences.

Nagoya Castle and its historical treasures

Nagoya Castle majestically stands at the center of the city, symbolizing the power of the Tokugawa. Rebuilt to its original form after its destruction during the war, this iconic monument provides a fascinating dive into the history of feudal Japan. Your guided tour will take you to the top of its 48-meter-high donjon, where you will enjoy an exceptional panorama over the modern metropolis.

The gardens surrounding the castle deserve special attention during your custom stay. The Ninomaru-en garden, reconstructed according to the original plans, invites you to a traditional tea ceremony in an exceptional setting. This experience, which our experts can organize for you, perfectly illustrates the Japanese art of living.

Iconic shrines and temples

The Atsuta-jingu shrine is among the most revered sites in Japan and is a must-see during your custom trip to Nagoya. This sacred place, which houses one of the three imperial relics, immerses you in Shinto spirituality. Its avenues lined with centuries-old cypresses create a unique atmosphere of contemplation at the heart of the metropolis.

The Osu Kannon temple, located in the lively Osu quarter, offers a striking contrast between tradition and modernity. Your visit to this Buddhist temple can be extended by exploring the surrounding covered shopping galleries, where traditional shops and trendy stores mingle.

Authentic neighborhoods and local cuisine

The Arimatsu district transports you to the Japan of yesteryear with its traditional houses and shibori textile dyeing workshops. This excursion, integrated into your personalized trip, allows you to discover local crafts and even participate in a creative workshop.

Your culinary exploration would not be complete without an immersion in local specialties. The gastronomic guided tours we organize will lead you to the best establishments in the city, from family-run stalls to starred restaurants, to taste the authentic flavors of Nagoya.

When to go and how long to plan for your personalized trip?

The choice of period for your custom trip to Nagoya greatly influences your experience. Each season reveals a different facet of this metropolis in Aichi prefecture, offering unique opportunities according to your preferences.

Spring (March to May) is the most popular period, especially for observing cherry blossoms in the city parks. This mild season allows you to fully enjoy Nagoya Castle's gardens and the walks in historical neighborhoods. Summer (June to August) is characterized by humid heat but offers the advantage of colorful traditional festivals and a particularly lively atmosphere.

Autumn (September to November) seduces with its vibrant colors and mild temperatures, ideal for excursions to the Japanese Alps. This period also allows you to fully enjoy seasonal culinary specialties. Winter (December to February), more rigorous, reveals a more intimate side of the city and offers the opportunity to discover the surrounding hot springs.

For your custom stay, we recommend a minimum of 3 days to discover the essentials of Nagoya. A week allows you to deepen your exploration and include excursions to surrounding regions.
