Cities to Saudi Arabia

Why choose a cruise in Saudi Arabia?

Saudi Arabia has long remained outside the standard tourist circuits. Since the country's gradual opening to international travelers, it reveals an unexpected face: lively port cities, a coastline of more than 1,800 kilometers along the Red Sea, well-preserved seabeds and a cultural heritage of rare richness. Sailing along its coasts is to approach a destination still little visited, far from the beaten path.

A Saudi Arabia cruise naturally fits into a broader Middle East itinerary. The sea routes along the Arabian Peninsula connect stops as diverse as Djeddah, Yanbu or Aqaba in Jordan, sometimes taking the strategic waters of the Suez Canal to reach the Mediterranean. This unique geographic positioning makes the region an ideal playground for fans of combined cruises.

Here are the main reasons that make this destination a remarkable choice :

  • A pristine coastline with coral reefs among the best preserved in the world ;
  • Stops that blend architectural modernity with old towns listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites ;
  • Generous local gastronomy, from kabsa, mandi to dates from Medina ;
  • A destination still not very touristic, for an authentic experience away from the crowds ;
  • Flexible itineraries allowing to combine the Red Sea, Persian Gulf and the Eastern Mediterranean.

Which stops to discover on a Saudi Arabia cruise?

The Saudi ports offer very varied profiles, from ultramodern metropolises to sleepy coastal towns in their millennial history. Each stop deserves time, whether to explore its alleys, dive into its waters or simply observe local life.

Djeddah, the gateway to the Red Sea

As the country’s main port city, Djeddah concentrates a large portion of the attractions of the Saudi coast. Its old town, Al-Balad, founded in the 7th century, has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2014. Its houses with mashrabiyas, its labyrinthine souks and its cobbled alleys create a setting of striking authenticity, just minutes from the modern seafront.

On the Corniche, a long coastal promenade of several kilometers, you can admire the King Fahd Fountain, one of the world's tallest fountains with jets reaching 312 meters in height. Not far from there, the Al-Rahma Floating Mosque, built directly on the waters of the Red Sea, is one of the city’s most photographed symbols. Between contemporary architecture and Islamic heritage, Djeddah is unlike any other stop.

Yanbu and its exceptional diving sites

About 300 kilometers north of Djeddah, Yanbu is a port city that hides its true nature. Its renovated old town, its spice markets and its marina make it a pleasant stop. But it is especially beneath the surface that Yanbu reveals its finest assets: its diving sites are reputed throughout the region for the quality of their coral reefs, almost intact, and the diversity of their marine life.

The Red Sea coral reefs are among the richest in the world, with exceptional biodiversity that divers and snorkelers will not fail to explore. The clear, warm waters of this semi-enclosed sea offer remarkable visibility, ideal for spotting rays, parrotfish and schools of barracudas.

King Abdullah Economic City, a stop oriented towards the future

Less known than Djeddah or Yanbu, King Abdullah Economic City is an original stop on certain itineraries. This new city, built from scratch on the shores of the Red Sea, is a pharaonic project illustrating Saudi Arabia’s transformation ambitions. It also serves as a starting point to explore the surroundings, including beaches and coastal natural sites.

What is the best time for a cruise in the Middle East?

The timing question is decisive to fully enjoy a cruise in the Middle East. Temperatures can be very high in summer, making some stops difficult to visit during the day. Autumn, winter and spring months are generally the most pleasant for navigating along the Saudi coasts.

Here is an overview of conditions by season to better plan your trip:

Period Temperatures in Jeddah Sea conditions Recommendation
October to November 28 to 34°C Calm sea Very favorable
December to February 22 to 28°C Calm sea Ideal
March to April 26 to 32°C Calm sea Very favorable
May to September 35 to 42°C Rough sea possible Not recommended

December to February are the ideal window for a Saudi Arabia cruise: temperatures are mild, the sea is calm, and stops can be visited comfortably. Spring is also a good alternative, with sunny days and cool nights.

How to organize your Saudi Arabia cruise with Vialala?

Preparing a Saudi Arabia cruise requires some expertise, as local specifics are numerous: entry formalities, cultural codes to respect, choice of stops, activities to book in advance. That is precisely where Vialala's Travel Planners come in.

At Vialala, we connect every traveler with a destination expert who can design an entirely personalized itinerary according to your wishes, your pace and your budget. Do you want to combine a Red Sea cruise with a few days on land to explore the archaeological sites of Hegra, a UNESCO World Heritage site? Or extend your stay with a stop in Jordan to discover Petra from Aqaba? Our Travel Planners build the trip that looks like you.

Practically speaking, a few essential points are to be anticipated before departure:

  • A passport valid for at least 6 months after the return date is mandatory;
  • An electronic tourist visa (e-visa) is required to enter Saudi Arabia;
  • The local dress code must be respected during on-shore visits;
  • Mecca and Medina are off-limits to non-Muslim travelers.

With Vialala, you benefit from end-to-end support, from designing your itinerary to the final logistical details. The Saudi Arabia cruise is no longer just a distant dream: it is a tailor-made journey within reach.

FAQ Saudi Arabia

Which itineraries combine Saudi Arabia with other destinations?

Many itineraries pair Saudi Arabia with other regional stops. Among the most popular are: the Red Sea and Jordan combination (with a Petra visit from Aqaba), or circuits linking Jeddah to Dubai via the Persian Gulf. Some longer itineraries even allow you to reach the Mediterranean by way of the Suez Canal, for a truly large-scale cruise.
