Pauline

Istanbul captivates with its exceptional geographical position as the only metropolis in the world spanning two continents. This former Constantinople, which was once Byzantium and then the capital of the Ottoman Empire, presents a striking face today where millennia-old traditions and modernity coexist. Your trip to Istanbul will immerse you in a unique atmosphere where minarets mix with skyscrapers and age-old bazaars are neighbors with contemporary art galleries.
Istanbul's rich history makes it a privileged destination for a tailored stay. Each district tells a different story, each monument bears witness to a bygone era, each street unveils a new face of this city with multiple identities. The Bosphorus Strait, separating Europe from Asia, provides breathtaking views and is the spine of this metropolis of 15 million people.
A custom-tailored trip to Istanbul allows you to grasp this complexity at your own pace and according to your areas of interest. Whether you are a history enthusiast, a lover of gastronomy, keen on architecture, or simply looking for a change of scenery, our Travel Planners will create the perfect itinerary for you to explore Istanbul from all angles.
Your trip to Istanbul will unveil architectural and cultural treasures of unimaginable richness across the European and Asian shores of this transcontinental metropolis.
The Hagia Sophia remains the architectural emblem of Istanbul, an exceptional testament to Byzantine art from the 6th century. This former cathedral, transformed into a mosque and then a museum, impresses with its colossal dimensions and 31-meter dome. Across from it stands the Blue Mosque, a masterpiece of 17th-century Ottoman architecture, distinguishable by its slender six minarets and 20,000 Iznik tiles that give it its iconic color.
The Topkapi Palace, the former residence of the Ottoman sultans for four centuries, sprawls over 70 hectares overlooking the Bosphorus. Its four successive courtyards house exceptional collections: Chinese porcelains, illuminated manuscripts, precious weaponry, and the famous imperial treasure. A visit to the harem, with its 300 rooms decorated with tiles and carved wood, is a highlight of your discovery.
The Sultanahmet district concentrates the main historical monuments within a confined area, facilitating walking tours. Its cobblestone streets lead to the Basilica Cistern, an impressive underground reservoir from the 6th century supported by 336 marble columns. The Grand Bazaar, with its 4,000 shops spread over 30 hectares, offers a total immersion in the art of Eastern commerce, among Persian carpets, gold jewelry, and colorful spices.
On the other side of the Golden Horn, the Beyoğlu district embodies modern Istanbul. Istiklal Avenue, a 1.4-kilometer pedestrian thoroughfare, is lined with shops, restaurants, and cultural venues. The Galata Tower, built by the Genoese in the 14th century, provides an exceptional panorama of the old city and the Bosphorus from its 67-meter height.
A cruise on the Bosphorus is an indispensable experience of your journey in Turkey. This strait, extending 32 kilometers, connects the Black Sea to the Sea of Marmara, separating Europe from Asia and varying from 700 meters to 3.5 kilometers wide. From the deck of the boat, you will admire 19th-century Ottoman palaces, traditional yalı (wooden houses), and medieval fortresses that punctuate the shores.
The Bebek neighborhood, dubbed the "Turkish Saint-Germain", charms with its trendy cafés and designer boutiques housed in former Ottoman residences. Further north, the fishing village of Sarıyer retains its authentic charm, while the Prince's Islands, accessible by ferry from Eminönü, offer a haven of peace with their Victorian houses and period horse-drawn carriages.
Organizing a customized stay in Istanbul requires local expertise to optimize your time and introduce you to the most authentic aspects of this complex metropolis.
Our Travel Planners based in Istanbul have an intimate knowledge of the city and its constant evolutions. They will guide you to the most enriching experiences according to your desires, be it in-depth cultural visits, culinary discoveries, or excursions to emerging neighborhoods. Their local expertise will help you avoid tourist traps and access secret spots that are generally inaccessible to regular visitors.
These specialists are fully versed in practical aspects: opening hours of monuments, optimal means of transport, authentic restaurants, and charming accommodations. They constantly adapt their recommendations according to the seasons, cultural events, and the city's latest trends.
Your bespoke journey is fully adaptable to your preferences and constraints. History buffs will benefit from private tours with experts in Byzantine or Ottoman art. Gastronomy enthusiasts will explore local markets, participate in Ottoman cooking classes, and taste specialties in establishments selected for their authenticity.
For honeymooners, we favor charming hotels with Bosphorus views, romantic dinners on panoramic terraces, and private sunset cruises. Families with children will enjoy playful activities: Ottoman calligraphy workshops, whirling dervish shows, and nostalgic tram rides.
Our stays range from 3 to 10 days depending on the desired intensity. A long weekend will allow you to discover the essentials: Sultanahmet, Beyoğlu, and a Bosphorus cruise. A week gives enough time to explore peripheral neighborhoods, venture onto the Asian side, and make an excursion to the Prince's Islands.
| Duration | Main Discoveries | Indicative Budget |
|---|---|---|
| 3-4 days | Sultanahmet, Beyoğlu, Bosphorus | 800-1200€ |
| 5-6 days | + Asian side, authentic neighborhoods | 1200-1800€ |
| 7-10 days | + Prince's Islands, exclusive experiences | 1800-2800€ |

Istanbul can be visited all year round, but the intermediate seasons offer the most comfortable conditions. Spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October) have mild temperatures between 15 and 25°C, ideal for walking tours. Summer can be hot and humid with temperatures exceeding 30°C, while winter remains mild but rainy. Our Travel Planners adapt your program according to the chosen season to optimize your comfort.
A minimum of 4 days allows you to see the essentials of Istanbul: the historical monuments of Sultanahmet, the modern district of Beyoğlu, and a cruise on the Bosphorus. For a more in-depth discovery including the Asian side, authentic neighborhoods, and cultural experiences, we recommend 6 to 7 days. This duration provides a comfortable pace without haste, allowing you to savor the unique atmosphere of each district according to your personal desires.
