Cities to Kenya

Why choose Kenya for your custom safari?

Kenya embodies the very essence of the African safari. This East African country, covering an area of 580,367 km², offers a diversity of landscapes and ecosystems that make it a prime destination for observing wildlife in its natural habitat. Our Travel Planners are intimately familiar with this destination and will create your trip to Kenya according to your desires and budget.

Must-visit parks in Kenya

Your stay in Kenya will take you through exceptional national parks and reserves, each offering unique experiences. The Maasai Mara National Reserve, spanning 1,510 km², is the jewel of your safari in Kenya. This natural extension of Tanzania's Serengeti Park hosts the famous Great Migration from July to October, where over 2 million wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles cross the Mara River in a striking display.

Amboseli National Park, located 240 km southeast of Nairobi, offers exceptional views of Kilimanjaro. Its 392 km² are home to one of Kenya's most important elephant populations, roaming in a savannah dotted with acacias. Lake Nakuru, perched at 1,754 meters altitude in the Great Rift Valley, turns your safari into a true ornithological festival with millions of pink flamingos coloring its shores.

The Samburu, Buffalo Springs, and Shaba reserves in the north of the country reveal a more confidential Kenya. These arid territories of 300 km² in total are home to endemic species such as the reticulated giraffe, Grevy's zebra, and Beisa oryx, which you will find nowhere else during your trip to Kenya.

Exceptional wildlife to discover

Traveling to Kenya means encountering the Big Five: lion, leopard, elephant, rhinoceros, and buffalo - in their natural environment. The country's parks and reserves host over 25,000 different animal species, making each safari a unique adventure. Our Travel Planners organize your safaris in Kenya based on your interests, whether you want to photograph the big cats, observe elephant behaviors, or discover the country's rich birdlife.

The wild nature of Kenya is particularly generous: more than 1,100 bird species inhabit its various ecosystems, from the fish eagles of Lake Naivasha to the golden weaverbirds of the savannahs. Kenya's national parks also protect endangered species like the black rhinoceros, whose population is gradually recovering thanks to conservation efforts.

When to go on safari in Kenya?

The choice of time for your trip to Kenya greatly influences your experience. The country benefits from a tempered equatorial climate by altitude, with variations according to the regions that our Travel Planners take into account to customize your stay in Kenya.

The best times according to your desires

The dry season, from June to October, represents the ideal time to visit Kenya. Temperatures range between 20°C and 28°C, precipitation is rare, and animals congregate around water points, facilitating their observation. This period coincides with the peak tourist season, implying higher rates but optimal conditions for your safaris in Kenya.

Period Climate Advantages Disadvantages
June-October Dry season Easy observation, Great Migration High prices, crowding
November-March Intermediate season Moderate rates, green landscapes Some showers
April-May Rainy season Low prices, few tourists Difficult trails

The period from November to March offers an excellent compromise for your safari in Kenya. The short rains in November refresh the atmosphere and re-green the savannah, creating exceptional photographic conditions. Temperatures remain pleasant, between 18°C and 26°C, and wildlife remains easily observable.

The Great Migration, a unique natural spectacle

The wildebeest migration is one of the most spectacular natural phenomena on the planet. Between July and October, these herbivores cross the Maasai Mara Reserve from the Tanzanian Serengeti, following a millennia-old cycle dictated by the rains and the growth of the grass. Our Travel Planners schedule your trip to Kenya to maximize your chances of witnessing this unique spectacle.

The crossings of the Mara River offer scenes of exceptional dramatic intensity. The herds, driven by their instinct, face the tumultuous waters under the watchful eyes of Nile crocodiles, creating moments of pure emotion that only a safari in Kenya can provide. This period requires early booking, and our experts accompany you in planning your stay to secure the best accommodations.

How to organize your safari trip to Kenya?

Organizing a custom safari in Kenya requires in-depth expertise that our Travel Planners provide. Every detail counts to turn your African dream into reality, from selecting the parks to the duration of the stay, including the choice of accommodations and complementary activities.

Duration and budget for your stay

A successful safari in Kenya requires a minimum of 7 days to discover the main national parks without hurrying. This duration allows visiting 3 to 4 different reserves and appreciating the diversity of Kenyan ecosystems. For a first approach, our Travel Planners often recommend a circuit combining the Maasai Mara, Amboseli, and Lake Nakuru, offering a complete overview of the country's wildlife.

The budget for your trip to Kenya varies significantly depending on your accommodation choices and the season. An 8-day all-inclusive safari ranges between 2,500€ and 6,000€ per person, including international flights, transfers, accommodation, and activities. Luxury lodges in private concessions offer exclusive experiences with rates reaching 1,000€ per night, while authentic tent camps offer excellent value for around 300€ per night.

Our Travel Planners tailor your custom trip to your budget by selecting accommodations and activities that meet your expectations. They also integrate often-forgotten ancillary costs: e-visa (50€), tips for guides and local teams (50€ to 80€ per day), and specialized travel insurance.

Combining safari and beach relaxation

Kenya offers the unique opportunity to combine your safari with a beach stay on the Indian Ocean coast. Diani Beach, located 30 km south of Mombasa, stretches 25 km of white sand beaches lined with coconut trees. This beach extension allows you to decompress after the emotional intensity of safaris in Kenya, in a tropical paradise setting.

Our Travel Planners easily organize this combination thanks to regular domestic flights between the parks and Mombasa. A 3 to 4-night stay at Diani Beach perfectly complements a 7-day safari, for a total Kenya trip of 10 to 12 days. Water activities abound: snorkeling in coral reefs, deep-sea fishing, traditional dhow excursions, or exploring the mangroves of Shimba Hills.

The island of Lamu, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offers a fascinating cultural alternative. This preserved Swahili city, accessible only by boat, immerses you in the maritime history of the Indian Ocean. Its narrow streets, Arab-Swahili architecture, and timeless atmosphere offer a striking contrast to the wild nature of the national parks.

Vialala accompanies you in creating your customized trip to Kenya, taking into account your desires, budget, and constraints. Our local Travel Planners share their intimate knowledge of the terrain to provide you with an authentic and unforgettable experience in the heart of East Africa.

FAQ Kenya

What is the best time to witness the Great Migration in Kenya?

The Great Migration moves through the Masai Mara from July to October, with peak activity in August and September. The most spectacular river crossings occur between late July and early September, when herds of wildebeest face the waters of the Mara under the watchful eyes of crocodiles. Our Travel Planners recommend booking as early as January for this highly sought-after period.

How much does a week-long safari in Kenya cost?

A 7-day safari in Kenya costs between €2,500 and €4,500 per person depending on the level of accommodation chosen. This price includes international flights, transfers, full board, and safari activities. Luxury lodges in private concessions can raise the budget to €6,000, while authentic camps allow for safaris starting at €2,000 per person.

Can one combine safari and beach during a trip to Kenya?

Absolutely! Kenya offers this unique possibility thanks to its coast on the Indian Ocean. Diani Beach, located a 1.5-hour flight from the southern parks, offers 25 km of white sand beaches. Our Travel Planners easily organize this combination with daily domestic flights, allowing for 7 days of safari followed by 3 to 4 nights of beach relaxation for a total trip of 10 to 12 days.
