The island of Corfu in Greece offers an exceptional playground for a memorable roadtrip. This destination of the Ionian Sea, with an area of 592 km², harmoniously combines historical heritage and natural beauties. Your days will be filled with discovering coves with crystalline waters, exploring picturesque villages, and visiting historically rich sites.
The diversity of Corfiot landscapes surprises at every kilometer. The north of Corfu reveals spectacular cliffs and unique rock formations, while the west of Corfu entices with its golden sandy beaches. The city of Corfu, a UNESCO World Heritage site, bears witness to the Venetian, French, and British influences that have shaped the island's identity.
Our Travel Planners are well-acquainted with this destination and can customize your itinerary according to your preferences. Whether you favor water activities, cultural discoveries, or relaxing on beautiful beaches, we tailor your roadtrip to your expectations.
The success of your Corfiot adventure relies on meticulous preparation. Several practical aspects deserve your attention to fully enjoy your two weeks of exploration.
Renting a car is the ideal solution for exploring the island of Corfu freely. The main roads are in good condition, although some paths leading to small coves might be more rugged. Expect to spend around 200 to 300 euros for a two-week rental, fuel included.
The Corfu airport offers several rental agencies, but we recommend booking in advance, especially in the high season. Distances remain manageable; it takes about 45 minutes to reach the furthest points from the capital.
The choice of your accommodations greatly influences your experience. For a fifteen-day roadtrip in Corfu, we suggest dividing your stay into several stages:
This distribution optimizes your travels while allowing you to appreciate each region at its own pace.
| Period | Temperature | Benefits | Drawbacks |
|---|---|---|---|
| May-June | 22-26°C | Verdant nature, low crowd; | Sea still chilly; |
| July-August | 28-32°C | Warm sea, entertainment; | High influx, high prices; |
| September-October | 24-28°C | Ideal conditions, warm sea; | Possible rains; |
The months of May, June, and September offer the best conditions for a roadtrip in Corfu. You avoid the summer crowds while enjoying a pleasant climate and more advantageous rates.
Your two-week roadtrip in Corfu is organized around diverse discoveries, alternating beach relaxation and cultural exploration. This balanced itinerary allows you to grasp all facets of the island.
Your first days begin with the discovery of the city of Corfu and its architectural treasures. The old city, with its paved streets and colorful facades, deserves two full days. Do not miss the visit to the Old Fort, which offers an exceptional panoramic view of the Ionian Sea, nor the Achilleion Palace, located 10 kilometers to the south.
The third day leads you to the island of Kanoni and the monastery of Vlacherna, accessible via a small causeway. This iconic site, photographed by thousands of visitors, reveals its full beauty at sunset. The nearby airport provides the unusual sight of planes brushing your head.
The following days take you towards the west of Corfu and the region of Paleokastritsa. This renowned seaside resort harbors several beaches with crystalline waters, nestled between cliffs covered with cypresses. The Paleokastritsa Monastery, perched at an altitude of 150 meters, dominates a breathtaking landscape.
Your exploration continues towards Porto Timoni, accessible after a 20-minute hike from the small village of Afionas. This double beach, formed by a sandbar connecting two coves, is among the most photogenic sites on the island.
The eighth day takes you to the Channel of Love near Sidari, a unique geological formation sculpted by erosion. According to local legend, couples who swim together in this channel will remain united for life. The surrounding white cliffs create a fairytale setting, particularly appreciated by photographers.
Drastis Cape, located a few kilometers away, offers an exceptional viewpoint over the Albanian coasts. These white cliffs plunging into an intensely blue sea constitute one of the most spectacular panoramas in the north of Corfu.
The following days include an excursion to Paxos and Antipaxos, two paradise islands located an hour by boat south of Corfu. Paxos entices with its authentic fishing villages and secret coves, while Antipaxos dazzles with its white sand beaches and turquoise waters reminiscent of the Caribbean.
The south of the island holds other surprises: Agios Georgios beach stretches over several kilometers of fine sand, while Lake Korission, separated from the sea by a thin strip of land, is a nature reserve frequented by many migratory birds.
Some places deserve special attention during your two-week trip to Corfu. These emblematic sites forge the island's unique identity and leave lasting travel memories.
Paleokastritsa remains a must for its six beaches nestled in protected coves. The main beach, well-equipped, is suitable for families, while the small surrounding coves appeal to those seeking tranquility. A boat excursion allows you to explore the sea caves with blue reflections.
The village of Kassiopi, in the northeast, retains its authenticity as a fishing port. Its seaside taverns serve local specialties in a relaxed atmosphere. The ruins of the Byzantine castle dominate the small port and offer a beautiful viewpoint over the Albanian coast.
Glyfada beach, on the west coast, ranks among the most beautiful beaches in Corfu with its golden sand and clear waters. The surrounding cliffs, covered with century-old olive trees, create a naturally preserved setting particularly photogenic.
Our Travel Planners can enrich your itinerary with more confidential discoveries: small coves accessible only on foot, family taverns frequented by locals, or secret viewpoints to admire the sunset. This customization makes all the difference between a classic trip and an authentic experience.
The island of Corfu reveals its charms gradually, with each kilometer and meeting. Each day brings its share of discoveries, from heavenly beaches to perched villages, from historic sites to breathtaking panoramas. Your fifteen-day roadtrip allows you to apprehend this destination in all its diversity, away from the classic tourist circuits.
A complete tour around the island of Corfu takes about 3 hours by car without stops, but we recommend setting aside at least a week to discover the main sights. A 15-day roadtrip in Corfu allows for an in-depth exploration of the island, the enjoyment of the beaches, and to soak in the local atmosphere without rushing.
The west of Corfu holds the most spectacular landscapes with Paleokastritsa, Porto Timoni, and the Drastis Cape cliffs. This region offers the greatest diversity: heavenly beaches, secret coves, perched monasteries, and panoramic viewpoints. Our Travel Planners recommend dedicating at least 5 days to this area during your stay.
Advance booking is highly recommended, especially from June to September and for quality accommodations. For a 15-day road trip, we suggest booking at least 2 months prior to departure. This ensures a better choice of accommodations and more advantageous rates, while securing your itinerary.
