To discover to Finland

Why choose a customized trip to Finland?

Finland offers a diversity of landscapes and experiences that deserves a personalized approach. Unlike traditional tours, a customized trip to Finland allows you to explore this Nordic destination according to your own desires and pace. Our Travel Planners who specialize in trips to Finland know this country of 188,000 lakes intimately and understand that each traveler seeks a unique experience.

Your tailor-made stay in Finland can perfectly adapt to your expectations: a winter adventure in Lapland to watch the Northern Lights, a cultural getaway in Helsinki, or immersion in the pristine nature of the lake region. This flexibility represents the very essence of personalized travel in Finland, where every detail of your itinerary reflects your passions and your dreams of discovery.

The local expertise of our Travel Planners is a major asset for your trip to Finland. These travel specialists know the country's best-kept secrets, from authentic saunas to the best spots for observing the Northern Lights. They guide you through off-the-beaten-path experiences, away from mass tourism, for an authentic discovery of Finnish culture.

What to discover on your customized trip to Finland?

Your tailor-made stay in Finland opens the doors to a multifaceted country, where Scandinavian modernity meets ancient traditions. From the capital Helsinki to the wild expanses of Lapland, each region reveals its own treasures.

Helsinki and the Baltic coast

Helsinki, the dynamic capital of 650,000 inhabitants, is often the ideal starting point to discover Finland. This port city charms with its Art Nouveau architecture, colorful markets, and avant-garde design. Your customized trip can include visiting the Suomenlinna fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, or exploring the design district to understand the Finnish way of life.

The Turku archipelago, with its 20,000 islands and islets, offers a unique maritime experience. Our Travel Planners can organize excursions on traditional ferries or stays in secluded chalets on private islands. This region allows you to discover Finland's maritime soul, where fishing traditions blend with preserved nature.

Finnish Lapland and its wonders

Lapland represents the absolute favorite for many travelers seeking adventure and a change of scenery. This region, located beyond the Arctic Circle, spans 100,000 square kilometers of wild spaces. Your tailor-made trip to Lapland can take you to Rovaniemi, the official capital of this region and residence of Santa Claus, where both children and adults experience magical moments.

Winter experiences in Lapland are particularly sought after. From December to March, this destination offers ideal conditions for:

  • Observing the Northern Lights under optimal conditions;
  • Sleigh rides with authentic Sami reindeer herders;
  • Dog sledding excursions through the snowy taiga;
  • Snowmobile outings to explore the great outdoors;
  • Cross-country skiing on endless trails.

The Lapland summer reveals another side of this region, with the phenomenon of the midnight sun from May to July. Your days then stretch over 24 hours of daylight, allowing endless hikes in national parks and the observation of exceptional wildlife.

The lake region and its landscapes

The Finnish Lake region, nicknamed the "land of a thousand lakes," deserves a prime spot in your tailor-made stay in Finland. Lake Saimaa, the largest body of water in the country with its 4,400 square kilometers, harbors remarkable biodiversity including the endangered Saimaa ringed seal.

This region is particularly well-suited to family travels, offering gentle activities and traditional wooden chalet accommodations. Your children can discover ice fishing in winter, while summer allows for canoeing, swimming, and wild berry picking. Traditional saunas by the lakeside constitute an essential cultural experience, followed by the ritual plunge into cool water.

When to go for your tailor-made stay in Finland?

The choice of timing significantly influences your travel experience in Finland. This Nordic country exhibits radically different facets depending on the seasons, each revealing its own attractions and specific activities.

Period Temperatures Benefits Recommended activities
December - March -5°C to -25°C Northern Lights, guaranteed snow Sleigh, snowmobile, skiing

June - August 15°C to 25°C Midnight sun, verdant nature Hiking, canoeing, festivals

FAQ Finland

What are the must-see attractions in Finland?

Finland is a captivating destination rich with natural and cultural wonders. Start your journey by exploring Helsinki, the iconic capital known for its stunning cathedral and bustling markets. Then, head to the Finnish Lakeland to enjoy scenic landscapes and outdoor activities like canoeing. Don't miss the Lapland region, especially Rovaniemi, famed as Santa Claus's hometown. Nature lovers should visit Koli National Park for breathtaking views of forests and hills. Finally, no trip to Finland would be complete without experiencing one of its renowned saunas, a tradition deeply rooted in Finnish culture.

What is the best time to visit Finland?

Finland offers incredible experiences throughout the year, but the ideal time to visit depends on your interests. For those aiming to see the Northern Lights, winter, from December to March, is the best time. This season also offers the chance to enjoy winter sports like skiing and snowshoeing. Conversely, if you prefer long, sunny days and milder temperatures, spring and summer, from May to September, are perfect. It's also the ideal time to explore Finland's verdant forests and majestic lakes. Avoid November and April, often seen as less favorable due to snowmelt and rain.

What activities can be done in Finland?

Finland is a playground for outdoor enthusiasts. Try cross-country skiing or dog sledding in winter for an authentic experience. In summer, hiking through one of Finland's numerous national parks is a must. Fishing and canoeing are also popular in the Finnish Lakeland. For a cultural experience, attend an opera performance in Savonlinna or explore local craftsmanship in Porvoo. Festivals, like the Night of the Arts and the Pori Jazz Festival, offer cultural flair to your trip. Lastly, don't leave without spending a night in a wooden cabin, a quintessential Finnish experience.

What is the ideal duration for a customized trip to Finland?

The optimal duration depends on your travel goals. For discovering Helsinki and its surroundings, a 4 to 5-day stay is sufficient. If you want to explore Lapland and observe the Northern Lights, plan for at least 6 to 8 days. For a complete trip including several regions (Helsinki, Lapland, Lakeland), we recommend 10 to 14 days. This duration allows you to fully enjoy each destination without rushing, while adapting to weather conditions that can influence activities such as observing the Northern Lights.

What are the must-do activities during a customized stay in Finland?

The must-do experiences vary depending on the season and your interests. In winter, Lapland offers unique activities: dog or reindeer sleigh rides, snowmobiling, observing the Northern Lights, and visiting Santa's village. A traditional sauna followed by a dip in a frozen lake is an authentic cultural experience. In summer, enjoy the midnight sun, hiking in national parks, canoeing on the lakes, and cultural festivals. Helsinki is worth a visit any season for its architecture, museums, and Nordic culinary scene.

How to dress for a trip to Finland depending on the seasons?

Clothing equipment entirely depends on the period of your trip. In winter (November-March), favor a multi-layer system: thermal underwear, fleece or wool, and a waterproof parka. Don't forget a hat, gloves, scarf, and slip-resistant winter shoes. In Lapland, temperatures can drop to -30°C, requiring reinforced gear often provided by activity providers. In summer (June-August), light clothing is sufficient along with a waterproof jacket for showers. Transitional seasons require mid-season clothing with the possibility to layer as temperatures fluctuate.
