Merci

Why choose a customized trip to Bhutan?

Traveling to Bhutan is much more than just a trip: it's an immersion into one of the last preserved Himalayan kingdoms. This small country nestled between China and India has maintained its authenticity thanks to a unique responsible tourism policy. With only 750,000 inhabitants over 38,394 square kilometers, the country of happiness emphasizes quality over quantity, deliberately limiting the number of visitors to preserve its environment and age-old culture.

Traveling to Bhutan with Vialala guarantees you a fully personalized experience. Our local Travel Planners, experts in this exceptional destination, design your custom stay in Bhutan according to your passions and pace. Whether you are drawn to Buddhist spirituality, high mountain treks or the exploration of architectural heritage, your customized trip to Bhutan will be unique.

The revolutionary concept of Gross National Happiness, established in 1972, places the well-being of the population before economic growth. This philosophy is felt in every aspect of your discovery of Bhutan: from the warm smiles of the locals to the preserved landscapes, through to the living traditions passed down from generation to generation.

What to discover during your customized stay in Bhutan?

Your customized trip to Bhutan will lead you off the beaten path, to encounter an incredibly rich heritage. The Land of the Thunder Dragon offers a surprising diversity despite its small size, from the subtropical valleys of the south to snow-capped peaks over 7,000 meters high.

Essential sites of your journey

The capital of Bhutan, Thimphu, often serves as the starting point for your exploration. This city of 115,000 inhabitants surprises with its harmonious mix between tradition and modernity. The Tashichho Dzong, an imposing fortress-monastery, houses the seat of government and perfectly illustrates traditional Bhutanese architecture. The gigantic Buddha Dordenma statue, standing 51 meters tall, offers an exceptional panorama over the valley.

Paro, the gateway to the kingdom, deserves special attention during your customized journey to Bhutan. The famous Tiger's Nest Monastery, perched majestically at 3,120 meters altitude on a vertiginous cliff, is a highlight of any trip to Bhutan with its 3-hour hike back and forth.

Punakha, former winter capital, seduces with its spectacular dzong located at the confluence of two rivers. This architectural marvel of the 17th century, 180 meters long, showcases the genius of Bhutanese builders. The Dochula pass, at 3,100 meters altitude, offers a clear view of Himalayan peaks, including Gangkar Puensum (7,570 meters), the country's highest point.

The Bumthang region, the spiritual heart of Bhutan, houses numerous ancient monasteries and preserved agricultural valleys. Our Travel Planners can organize homestays for an authentic immersion into Bhutanese rural way of life.

Festivals and Bhutanese traditions

Your customized stay in Bhutan can coincide with one of the many religious festivals that mark the year. The Thimphu Tshechu, in September-October, attracts thousands of pilgrims to admire the sacred masked dances. The spring festival in Paro provides a colorful spectacle in an exceptional setting.

These celebrations offer a chance to observe traditional costumes worn daily: the gho for men and the kira for women. This dress requirement, far from being restrictive, reflects the cultural pride of the Bhutanese and contributes to the unique atmosphere of the country.

How to organize your customized trip to Bhutan?

Traveling to Bhutan requires thorough preparation, which our local experts master perfectly. Unlike typical destinations, the kingdom enforces strict rules that ensure a quality experience while preserving its environment.

When to travel to Bhutan?

Choosing the time of year greatly influences your travel experience. The following table presents the characteristics of each season:

Season Period Temperatures Advantages Disadvantages
Spring March-May 15-25°C Rhododendrons blooming, clear skies Tourist influx
Summer June-August 20-30°C Lush vegetation Monsoon, frequent rains
Autumn Sept-Nov 10-20°C Excellent visibility, festivals Cool nights at high altitudes
Winter Dec-Feb 5-15°C Few tourists, clear skies Cold at high altitudes, closed roads

The months of October-November and March-May offer optimal conditions for traveling to Bhutan. Our Travel Planners adjust your itinerary according to the season chosen, favoring low valleys in winter or high-altitude treks in spring and autumn.

Formalities and practical advice

Traveling to Bhutan involves acquiring a mandatory visa, which our experts organize. The country applies a sustainable development fee of 200 dollars per day per person, ensuring quality tourism. This contribution finances environmental conservation and community development.

Your customized trip to Bhutan is conducted exclusively with a certified local guide and private vehicle. This arrangement, far from being restrictive, ensures your safety and enhances your understanding of Bhutanese culture. Our French-speaking guides share their intimate knowledge of the country, revealing aspects invisible to ordinary visitors.

Accommodations vary according to your preferences: charm hotels in main cities, eco-lodges in the mountains, or family guesthouses for total immersion. Our Travel Planners select each establishment based on strict quality and authenticity criteria.

A small group remains the preferred formula to explore this Himalayan kingdom. Our honeymoon trips to Bhutan are increasingly popular, offering a romantic setting in one of the most preserved countries in the world. Traditional blessing ceremonies, organized in ancient monasteries, create unforgettable memories.

Our local partner agencies in Bhutan guarantee impeccable service while respecting the country's values. This approach to responsible tourism perfectly aligns with the Bhutanese philosophy of sustainable development and respect for the environment.

The trips to Bhutan customized to your desires allow you to discover lesser-known aspects of this fascinating kingdom. Whether you wish to learn archery, the national sport, participate in meditation sessions in remote monasteries, or explore the colorful markets of Thimphu, your stay will be entirely personalized.

Another neighboring Himalayan kingdom, Nepal, can complement your discovery of this exceptional region. Our Travel Planners design combined tours to grasp the cultural and geographic diversity of the Himalayas.
