Cities on Andalusia

Why choose a roadtrip in Andalusia for fifteen days in Spain ?

A roadtrip in Andalusia represents one of the most enriching experiences you can have during a trip in Spain. This autonomous region of southern Iberia, spanning 87,268 square kilometers, concentrates an exceptional cultural and landscape diversity that fully justifies a two-week stay in Andalusia.

Your itinerary in Andalusia will lead you through eight distinct provinces, each revealing its own treasures. From Seville to Granada, including Cordoba and the white villages of the Sierra Nevada, each stage of your road trip will unveil a different facet of this land shaped by 800 years of Moorish presence.

The distances between the main Andalusian cities remain reasonable: count about 140 kilometers between Seville and Cordoba, which is about 1h40 drive, or 207 kilometers between Cordoba and Granada for 2h15 journey. This proximity allows you to optimize your time on site rather than on the road, a considerable advantage for a trip in Andalusia of fifteen days.

Our local Travel Planners at Vialala know these roads perfectly and can advise you on the best panoramic viewpoints, authentic restaurants hidden in small alleys, and charming accommodations that will transform your trip in Andalusia into an unforgettable experience.

What road trip itinerary to favor for your circuit in Andalusia ?

Several itineraries are available to you depending on your preferences and the duration of your stay. From the classic golden triangle to coastal escapades, each itinerary reveals different facets of this fascinating region.

The classic itinerary: the Andalusian golden triangle

For your first approach to an Andalusian roadtrip, the classic road itinerary forms a triangle between Seville, Cordoba, and Granada. This route of historical monuments allows you to discover the three jewels of the UNESCO World Heritage in Andalusia: the Alcazar of Seville, the Mezquita of Cordoba, and the Alhambra of Granada.

Seville, your ideal starting point, is only 10 kilometers from the international airport. The Andalusian capital deserves three full days to admire its Gothic cathedral of 11,520 square meters, stroll in the Santa Cruz neighborhood with its cobblestone streets, and attend a flamenco show in the Triana district.

Next stop Cordoba for the next stage of your itinerary. The former capital of the Umayyad Caliphate houses the famous Mezquita, a unique mosque-cathedral in the world with its 856 marble and jasper columns. Plan two days to explore the historic center and the flowered patios of the Jewish quarter.

The extension to the Mediterranean coast

Your circuit in Andalusia gains in diversity by integrating the Costa del Sol. From Granada, take the road to Malaga in 1h30 journey. This coastal city, birthplace of Picasso, offers a perfect balance between culture and beach relaxation.

Nerja, 50 kilometers east of Malaga, is a charming stop with its famous Balcony of Europe overlooking the Mediterranean. The Nerja caves, discovered in 1959, stretch over 4,823 meters of galleries adorned with spectacular limestone formations.

The route of the white villages

No stay in Andalusia would be complete without discovering the pueblos blancos. These white villages of Andalusia, perched on the foothills of the Sierra de Grazalema, offer breathtaking panoramas.

Ronda, perched at 750 meters altitude, impresses with its Puente Nuevo spanning the Tajo gorges at 98 meters high. Setenil de las Bodegas surprises with its troglodyte houses nestled under immense rocks. These detours greatly enrich your Andalusian road trip.

The must-see stages of your trip in Andalusia

Four major destinations structure any successful Andalusian journey. Each has its own personality and deserves an in-depth stay to reveal all its secrets.

Seville: the soul of Andalusia

Seville deserves its status as a regional capital by the wealth of its historical heritage. The Notre-Dame du Siège cathedral, built between 1401 and 1528, is the third largest cathedral in the Christian world with its 116 meters in length. Its Giralda, a former Almohad minaret of 104 meters high, offers a breathtaking view over the entire city.

The Royal Alcazar seduces with its lush gardens spanning 7 hectares and its salons with preserved Mudejar decorations. The Santa Cruz neighborhood, the former Jewish quarter with white houses adorned with wrought iron balconies, invites you to wander through its narrow streets lined with flowered patios.

In the evening, cross the Guadalquivir towards the Triana district, cradle of flamenco. The authentic tablaos immerse you in the passionate atmosphere of this art, inscribed on the intangible heritage of UNESCO since 2010.

Cordoba: the legacy of the caliphate

Cordoba fascinates with its historic center of 80 hectares, one of the largest in Europe. The Mosque-Cathedral, built from 785, reflects eight centuries of architectural evolution. Its bicolored red and white arches, supported by 856 columns, create a unique stone forest in the world.

The Roman bridge, 247 meters long with 16 arches, spans the Guadalquivir since the time of Augustus. The Tower of la Calahorra, at its southern end, houses a museum tracing the coexistence of three cultures: Christian, Jewish, and Muslim.

The patios of Cordoba, inscribed on the World Heritage, come alive particularly in May during the famous contest. These inner courtyards, inherited from Roman architecture, are adorned with geraniums, jasmines, and orange trees in a festival of colors and fragrances.

Granada: the Nasrid splendor

Granada crowns your road trip itinerary with the Alhambra, considered the jewel of Islamic art in the West. This palatial complex of 142,000 square meters includes the military Alcazaba, the Nasrid Palaces with their carved stucco decorations, and the Generalife gardens with murmuring fountains.

The Albaicín neighborhood, the former Moorish quarter with white houses, offers from the San Nicolas viewpoint a panoramic view of the Alhambra, particularly magical at sunset. Its cobbled streets weave between the carmenes, these typical house-gardens of Granada.

The Sacromonte, a gypsy quarter carved into the hillside, perpetuates the tradition of flamenco in its cuevas. These furnished caves host authentic performances where the duende, that pure emotion inherent to Andalusian art, resonates.

Malaga: between culture and Mediterranean

Malaga harmoniously combines heritage and modernity on its Mediterranean coast. The Alcazaba, a palatial fortress of the 11th century, dominates the city from the Gibralfaro hill. Its terraced gardens offer an unbeatable view of the port and bay.

The Picasso museum, housed in the 16th-century Buenavista Palace, gathers 285 works by the master born on Merced Street in 1881. The Pompidou Malaga Center, in its multicolored cube at the port, complements the cultural offer with contemporary art.

The Malagueta beach, 1,200 meters long, allows combining cultural visits and beach relaxation. The chiringuitos, these typical beach restaurants, serve local specialties facing the Mediterranean.

Practical tips for organizing your stay in Andalusia

Good preparation guarantees the success of your Andalusian roadtrip. Travel period, budget, accommodations, and reservations constitute the pillars of optimal organization.

When to go for your Andalusian roadtrip ?

The Mediterranean climate of Andalusia allows traveling all year round, but certain periods are more favorable depending on your preferences. The following table guides you in your choice :

Period Temperatures Advantages Drawbacks
March-May 15-25°C Ideal climate, nature in bloom Moderate influx
June-August 25-40°C Beaches, festivals Intense heat, crowds
Sept-Nov 20-30°C Pleasant temperatures Possible rains
Dec-Feb 10-18°C Advantageous rates Shorter days

Our Travel Planners particularly recommend the months of April, May, September, and October for an optimal Andalusian roadtrip, combining mild weather and less crowded sites.

How long to plan for your Andalusian circuit ?

The ideal duration for a trip in Andalusia depends on your interests and the desired pace :

  • One week in Andalusia allows discovering the golden triangle Seville-Cordoba-Granada ;
  • Ten days offer the possibility of adding Malaga and some white villages ;
  • Fifteen days in Spain let you explore Andalusia in depth, including the coast, natural parks, and less-known sites.

For a two-week roadtrip, count about 1,500 kilometers in total, roughly 100 kilometers per day, leaving ample time for visits and soaking in the Andalusian culture.

Budget and accommodations

A stay in Andalusia remains affordable compared to other European destinations. On average, count :

  • Car rental: 25-35€/day ;
  • Gasoline: about 1.40€/liter ;
  • Accommodation: 60-120€/night depending on the standard ;
  • Meals: 15-30€/person depending on the type of restaurant ;
  • Entrance to monuments: 8-15€ on average.

Our Travel Planners select for you charming accommodations: paradors in historical monuments, traditional cortijos in the countryside, or boutique hotels in historic centers, for an authentic experience of your trip in Andalusia.

Essential reservations

Some sites require advance booking, especially the Alhambra of Granada whose tickets sell out quickly. Reserve at least 2-3 months in advance for the Nasrid Palaces. Likewise, flamenco shows in the best tablaos often sell out.

At Vialala, our local experts handle all these reservations and guarantee you access to the key sites at the best times, avoiding crowds and optimizing your discovery of Andalusia.

FAQ Andalusia

What is the best time to go on a roadtrip in Andalusia?

The months of April, May, September, and October offer ideal conditions for an Andalusian roadtrip. Temperatures range between 20 and 25°C, perfect for visiting monuments and driving. Avoid July-August where temperatures can reach 40°C, particularly in Cordoba and Seville. Winter remains mild with 15-18°C on average, but days are shorter.

How much does a fifteen-day roadtrip in Andalusia cost?

For a two-week roadtrip in Andalusia, budget about 1,200-1,800€ per person, including car rental (350-500€), accommodation (900-1,800€), gasoline (150€), meals (300-600€), and site entry fees (100-150€). This budget varies depending on the level of comfort chosen and the season. Our Travel Planners help you optimize your budget according to your priorities.

Should we book landmarks in advance for a trip to Andalusia?

Yes, some major sites require advanced booking. The Alhambra in Granada limits daily entries and is often fully booked 2-3 months in advance, especially for the Nasrid Palaces. The Alcazar of Seville and flamenco shows in top tablaos also need reservations. Our Vialala experts handle all these bookings to guarantee your access to the must-see attractions.
