Cities to the Seychelles

Why choose the Seychelles for your family holidays?

The Seychelles archipelago stands out as a dream destination for a family trip. Located in the heart of the Indian Ocean, this group of 115 islands offers an exceptional setting where pristine nature meets family-friendly infrastructure. Unlike other tropical destinations, the Seychelles enjoy a stable climate all year round, with temperatures ranging between 24°C and 30°C, ideal for the whole family.

The beaches of the Seychelles are one of the major attractions for families. Their crystal-clear, shallow waters allow young children to swim safely, while the fine white sand invites sandcastle building and beach games. The absence of dangerous currents on most family beaches reassures parents while offering children an exceptional natural playground.

The richness of Seychellois flora and fauna makes every outing an educational adventure. Your children can observe the giant Aldabra tortoises, some over 150 years old, discover the endemic black parrot, and marvel at the coral formations during snorkeling sessions suited to their level.

The limited time difference with Europe (only 2 to 3 hours depending on the season) makes it easier for the little ones to adjust, allowing you to fully enjoy the stay from the first days. This temporal proximity is a significant advantage for families wishing to avoid the inconveniences of jet lag.

The essential islands for a family stay in the Seychelles

The Seychellois archipelago is mainly discovered through three main islands, each offering its own charms and family-appropriate activities.

Mahé, the main island and its family treasures

The island of Mahé, the largest in the archipelago with its 155 km², concentrates the majority of tourist facilities and is often the ideal starting point for a family trip to the Seychelles. Victoria, the capital, merits a visit with its colorful markets where children can discover local spices and tropical fruits.

Beau Vallon Beach, stretching over 3 kilometers, represents one of the most popular family destinations on Mahé. Its calm and shallow waters allow children to splash safely, while parents appreciate the numerous restaurants and water activities available. The sunsets there are particularly spectacular, providing magical moments to share with the family.

The Morne Seychellois National Park covers nearly 20% of the island and offers hiking trails suitable for families. The Copolia trail, lasting about 2 hours, offers panoramic views of the archipelago while remaining accessible to children over 8 years old. This hike allows you to observe the endemic flora and spot some rare bird species.

Praslin and its natural wonders

The island of Praslin, the second largest in the archipelago by size, houses two essential sites for families: the Vallée de Mai and Anse Lazio Beach. The Vallée de Mai, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a unique primary forest in the world where the famous coco-de-mer grows. This 2-kilometer walk on well-maintained trails captivates children with its prehistoric landscapes and playful explanations of the endemic fauna and flora.

Anse Lazio consistently ranks among the world's most beautiful beaches. Its pristine white sand, turquoise waters, and granite boulders shaped by erosion create a picture-perfect setting. The beach has family-friendly facilities with natural shade areas under the takamaka trees and calm waters perfect for children's swimming.

Anse Volbert, also known as the Golden Coast, stretches over 2 kilometers and offers a more lively alternative to Anse Lazio. Its numerous restaurants and water activities make it a preferred stay location for families wishing to combine relaxation and entertainment.

La Digue, a biking paradise

La Digue embodies Seychellois authenticity with its peaceful pace of life and transportation mainly by bike or ox cart. This 10 km² island is easily traversable by family, offering a unique experience for children accustomed to motorized transportation.

Anse Source d'Argent, accessible through the Union Estate Park, is one of the world's most photographed beaches. Its pink granite boulders, shallow waters, and fine sand make it an ideal playground for children. The park also houses giant tortoises that children can observe up close, creating unforgettable memories.

Exploring La Digue by bike represents an exceptional family adventure. The seldom-trafficked roads and varied landscapes allow you to discover the island at your own pace, stopping in secluded coves or at local artisans' shops.

Activities and experiences to enjoy as a family

The Seychelles offer a plethora of activities suitable for families, combining discovery, learning, and entertainment in an exceptional natural setting.

Observing the fauna is one of the most memorable experiences for children. Curieuse Island, accessible on a day trip from Praslin, harbors a population of giant tortoises roaming freely. This nature reserve allows children to approach these centuries-old animals in their natural habitat, while discovering the ecosystem of the mangroves during a walk on stilts.

The Sainte-Anne Marine Park, located a few kilometers from Mahé, offers glass-bottom boat excursions particularly appreciated by families. This activity allows observing the marine world without getting wet, ideal for young children or those not yet confident in swimming. The coral reefs shelter a colorful marine fauna that children discover with amazement.

Water activities are adjusted to all ages and skill levels. Snorkeling in shallow lagoons introduces children to the exploration of the underwater world safely. Diving centers offer introductory sessions suitable for teenagers, while younger children can have fun with masks and snorkels in protected areas.

Family hikes allow discovering the rich Seychellois flora. The nature trail at La Digue, lasting about 1 hour, presents the endemic species in a fun addTarget the newly announced HTML5 and educational way. These hikes constitute excellent moments of sharing and learning for the entire family.

Practical tips for organizing your trip to the Seychelles with family

Ensuring a successful family stay in the Seychelles relies on meticulous planning, tailored to the specific needs of travelers with children.

The choice of travel period significantly influences the family experience. The Seychelles enjoys a pleasant tropical climate year-round, but some periods prove more favorable. The months from May to October correspond to the dry season, with less precipitation and more moderate winds, ideal for beach activities and excursions. The months from November to April, warmer and more humid, also suit families, with the advantage of often more advantageous rates. Period Advantages Disadvantages Family recommendation May-October Dry weather, moderate winds Higher rates Ideal with young children November-April More advantageous rates, less crowded More rain, warmer Perfect for experienced families

Family accommodations in the Seychelles offer various options suited to budgets and needs. Private villas provide the independence appreciated by families, with equipped kitchens and generous living spaces. Family hotels often offer kid's clubs and supervised activities, allowing parents to enjoy some relaxation time. Our Travel Planners at Vialala select the most suitable accommodations according to the age of the children and family expectations.

Transport between islands is mainly organized by ferry or plane. Ferries, more budget-friendly, allow admiring the marine landscapes but may cause seasickness in some children. Internal flights, quicker, are better suited for families with young children or to optimize the stay duration.

Car rental on Mahé and Praslin facilitates family journeys and allows exploring the islands at your own pace. Driving is on the left, and the roads, although sometimes narrow, remain passable with caution. On La Digue, renting bicycles with child seats or trailers is the preferred means of transport.

The budget for a family trip to the Seychelles varies considerably according to accommodation and activity choices. Expect to spend between €150 and €300 per day for a family of four, including accommodation, meals, and activities. Dining at local takeaways allows to cut costs while discovering authentic Creole cuisine.

Health precautions remain limited in the Seychelles, with no specific vaccination required. Sun protection is the main priority, with high protection sunscreen, hats, and covering clothing for children. Mosquitoes, mostly present in the evening, require the use of child-friendly repellents.

Our Travel Planners specialized in the Indian Ocean assist families in designing their custom trip to the Seychelles, considering the constraints and desires of each family member to create unforgettable memories in this tropical paradise.

FAQ Seychelles

Are the Seychelles safe for traveling with young children?

The Seychelles rank among the safest destinations in the world for families. The archipelago poses no major health risks, no endemic tropical diseases, and features adequate medical facilities on the main islands. The family-friendly beaches have calm and shallow waters, ideal for young children. Crime is very low, and the local population is particularly welcoming towards families.

What budget should you plan for a family of four in the Seychelles?

The budget varies depending on the level of comfort desired, but expect to spend between €4,000 and €8,000 for a week-long family vacation for four. This budget includes international flights (€1,200-€2,000), accommodation in a villa or family hotel (€150-€400/night), meals (€80-€150/day), local transport and activities (€50-€100/day). Opting for accommodations with a kitchen and favoring local restaurants can significantly reduce costs.

From what age can a child be taken to the Seychelles?

The Seychelles are suitable for children of all ages, including infants. The lack of significant time difference, stable climate, and suitable infrastructure make traveling with very young children easier. For infants under 12 months, plan for specialized equipment and check the availability of baby products on site. Children from 3-4 years old fully enjoy activities such as watching giant tortoises or walking in the tropical forest.
