A Red Sea cruise is foremost an invitation to navigate between multiple cultures, landscapes, and millennia of history. The most common routes connect Egypt and Jordan, sometimes with stopovers in Saudi Arabia, offering a diversity of discoveries difficult to match elsewhere.
A journey in Egypt from the waters of the Red Sea often starts by Hurghada or Sharm el-Sheikh, two coastal cities with very distinct characters. Hurghada enchants with its fine sand beaches and lively atmosphere, while Sharm el-Sheikh, nestled at the tip of the Sinai Peninsula, is renowned for the exceptional quality of its seabeds. Naama Bay, accessible from the port, is a true divers' paradise where colorful corals and tropical fish mingle just a few meters deep.
Beyond the coasts, land excursions allow to travel back in time to the Valley of the Kings at Luxor, or to visit the over 4,000-year-old Karnak Temple. The Ras Mohammed natural reserve, classified as a national park, is one of the most renowned diving sites in the whole Mediterranean and Red Sea region.
From the port of Aqaba, Jordanian stopovers open the door to two of the most stunning landscapes of the Middle East. The Wadi Rum desert, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, unfolds its ocher rock formations and sand dunes as far as the eye can see over more than 720 km². Exploring it by jeep or camelback takes on the air of an authentic adventure.
Two hours away by road, Petra alone is worth the detour. This Nabatean city carved into pink rock, one of the modern Seven Wonders of the World, reveals its temples, tombs, and its famous Treasury along a natural passageway called the Siq. An unforgettable stop that our Travel Planners at Vialala gladly integrate into tailor-made itineraries.
The climate of the Red Sea is generally favorable for navigation throughout the year, but some seasons stand out for their comfort and interest for nautical activities. Here's an overview of the periods according to your desires:
| Period | Temperatures (air) | Temperatures (water) | Ideal for |
|---|---|---|---|
| October to December | 25 to 30 °C | 24 to 27 °C | Diving, cultural visits |
| January to March | 18 to 25 °C | 21 to 24 °C | Hiking, excursions |
| April to June | 28 to 35 °C | 24 to 27 °C | Snorkeling, sailing |
| July to September | 35 to 40 °C | 27 to 30 °C | Swimming, life on board |
Autumn remains the favorite season of many travelers: temperatures are mild, underwater visibility is excellent, and tourist sites are less crowded. For diving in Egypt, the months of October to December offer particularly favorable conditions, with clear water and a very active marine fauna.
However, the months of July and August, although very hot, allow full enjoyment of life on board and swimming. Stopovers in Saudi Arabia, like Jeddah or Aqaba, are accessible all year round, with more bearable temperatures between November and March.
The Red Sea is much more than just a backdrop for navigation. Its waters harbor one of the best-preserved coral ecosystems in the world, making it a choice destination for those keen on exploring marine depths. But activities are not limited to diving.
Diving in Egypt attracts travelers from all over the world, and for good reason: the Red Sea diving sites are among the richest on the planet. The Thistlegorm wreck, sunk in 1941 and now colonized by abundant fauna, is one of the most iconic dives in the world. The reefs of the Brothers Islands, accessible from Hurghada, offer encounters with hammerhead sharks and manta rays.
For those who prefer to stay on the surface, snorkeling allows an equally spectacular discovery of the seabed, particularly in the shallow waters of the Sinai Peninsula. Even without diving equipment, the seabeds reveal themselves from a glass-bottom boat or during an outing in a semi-submersible.
A sea cruise is not just about navigation. Between two stopovers, here are a few experiences not to miss:
Planning a tailor-made Red Sea cruise requires good knowledge of the itineraries, seasons, and local service providers. This is precisely where the Travel Planners of Vialala come in: experts who know the region having explored it and who build with you a trip tailored to your desires, your pace, and your budget.
Whether you dream of an itinerary centered on Egypt and Jordan, a sea cruise with stopovers in Saudi Arabia, or a program combining diving and cultural discoveries, our Travel Planners select for you the best ships, the best stopovers, and the best excursions. Some formulas include full board on board, with meals, entertainment, and water activities, for a hassle-free logistical experience.
At Vialala, each Red Sea cruise is envisioned as a unique journey, far from standardized formulas. You indicate your preferences, and we build the itinerary that suits you, whether it's a family trip, a couple's getaway, or an adventure among friends.
This depends on the stopovers planned in your itinerary. For Egypt, French nationals can obtain a visa on arrival or online via the e-visa, for about 25 dollars. For Jordan, a visa is also required, available on arrival at the port of Aqaba. Stopovers in Saudi Arabia require specific procedures to be anticipated before departure. Our Travel Planners assist you with these formalities.
A Red Sea cruise typically lasts between 7 and 14 days depending on the desired stopovers. A week is sufficient to discover the essentials between Egypt and Jordan, including Sharm el-Sheikh, Hurghada, and Aqaba. To integrate land excursions such as Petra or Luxor, and to fully enjoy diving sites, a stay of 10 to 12 days is often recommended.
Yes, the Red Sea is a particularly suitable destination for families. The calm and shallow waters of many bays make swimming and snorkeling easy for the younger ones. Some ships offer specific programs for children and full-board packages designed for families. Our Travel Planners at Vialala select the itineraries and boats best suited to your family setup.
