What is a horseback riding hike?

Horseback trips, or horseback riding tours, are part of equestrian tourism and involve journeys where you spend time on a horse. You can choose to stay at a club or a ranch where you can engage in equestrian activities as well as other activities, or you can undertake a horseback journey on an itinerant basis.

You can go abroad, to the United States or Morocco for example, or explore France on horseback.

Who are horseback riding hikes for?

Horseback riding is for everyone! Depending on the type of trip, duration, and terrain difficulty, different levels and a good physical condition will be required. However, there are journeys made for beginner riders and for experienced riders.

During these walks, it's about being in harmony with nature and discovering places that are difficult to access otherwise. It also involves being in tune with the horse and being attentive to its needs.
It's a rewarding experience, for both young and old, and it will certainly show you nature in a new light.

What hike is right for me?

Occasional or beginner rider? Turn instead to rides of less than a week that will satisfy your desire for escape and closeness with the horse without exhausting you.

Are you traveling with family or young children? Consider opting for ranches or equestrian lodges that can offer you horseback riding and additional activities.

If you are an experienced rider, you can opt for longer rides that will take you further. They will allow you to appreciate places off the beaten path.

Where to go horseback riding?

There are destinations known primarily for the special relationship they have with horses. The animal has always been a part of the culture of the peoples living in these regions and is still today an important element of their daily life and their traditions.

A good example is Kyrgyzstan. The nomadic peoples who roam its plains and mountains primarily travel on horseback, allowing them to navigate rugged trails where vehicles cannot pass. Kyrgyzstan has also been organizing the World Nomad Games for a few years now, where, as you might have guessed, many events take place on horseback!

Another prime destination for horseback riding-focused trips is Mongolia. Known for its nomadic culture, you can take one or two-week treks there in the company of the locals.

Can I bring my horse with me?

Horse owners have the opportunity to bring their own mounts on trips, mainly in France. Check with your travel designer to see if it's possible and under what conditions if applicable.
