Useful info (food)

For your meals, catering prices are quite expensive compared to other countries. For an average budget, treat yourself to one or two outings to a restaurant. You will find many mini markets where you can buy your provisions (the concept of supermarket hardly exists in Norway). Norwegians often eat toast (matpakke), so you will find a lot of sliced bread and all kinds of foods to spread on it. Among the curiosities to taste: brunost (brown cheese with a mild and sweet flavor), kaviar (fish roe paste in a tube), fiskekaker (kinds of savory pancakes with fish) and kanelboller (rolled cakes cinnamon, even better reheated and with Chantilly cream).

The Arctic Cathedral

The Arctic Cathedral, which was built in 1965, stands out for its modern and recognizable architecture. During the summer, from June 1 to August 15, to celebrate the midnight sun, concerts of classical music and lyrical singing are played every evening (11:00 p.m.).

Sommarøy is a village located on a small island off the west coast of Kvaløya. A bus (line 420) connects it to the city of Tromsø. In 2019, he made talk about him around the world by declaring himself as a "time free zone", that is to say an area where time has been abolished. This choice, motivated by the disruption of the notion of time caused by the midnight sun, was in reality a publicity stunt on the village. From Sommarøy, climb the Brensholmen (566 m). The difficulty level is medium.
